Even if a supporting frame is professionally erected, a levelling check is still recommended in case of an installation defect. In fact, there should be a dual inspection check for complete work assurance. The first part assesses the tower for alignment while the second part looks at each platform level and inspects the actual planks to see if they’re fastened firmly to the frame. If a platform is poorly levelled, this will cause tools and soft-edged items such as screws and bolts to roll under someone’s foot and can cause a loss of balance.
On top of the planks, an optimised decking configuration fastens sheets of space-free panels. It’s slip-resistant and intended to flow seamlessly from one edge of the raised tower to the opposite edge. Equally, plank-only flooring contributes to a more open-plan installation model. With this, the planks can gap and may cause tools to fall. These similar gaps can widen enough to permit an unwary foot to drop, possibly causing an injury. When installing planks, secure them properly and eliminate any gaps between individual boards.
Remember the importance of strength and durability in scaffolding planks when providing a safe working tower.
